Tom Laidlaw

Skills and Experience: Tom has many years of experience in the purchasing and selling of infrastructure assets in multiple jurisdictions. He has experience in transportation assets (airports, ports, roads and rail) as well as regulated utilities. This experience has been gained in Australia, North America and Europe. Tom has also advised numerous clients on their financial structure and raised over $20 billion of new debt.

Andrew Pickering
Position: Chief Investment Officer and EIT Portfolio Manager

Skills and Experience: Andrew has over 27 years’ experience in the energy industry in Australia and Asia, commencing his professional life as a lawyer before joining Edison Mission Energy in 1999. After three years with China Light & Power, based in Hong Kong, he returned to Australia in 2004 to head Yallourn Energy and subsequently, Managing Director of TRUenergy. Andrew acted on many of Australia’s major energy privatisation projects and has an extensive knowledge of the gas and electricity industries throughout Australia.

From 1 October 2014, Andrew became Chairman of the ICG Board.

Mike Fitzpatrick
Position: Non-Executive Director

ICG Start Date: 2009

Skills and Experience: Mike has 37 years’ experience in the financial services sector in Australia and the US. In 1994 he founded Hastings Funds Management Limited, the pioneering infrastructure asset management company in Australia, where he was Managing Director until he sold his interest in 2005. Mike is former chairman of Victorian Funds Management Corporation and the Australian Sports Commission, a former director of Rio Tinto Limited, Rio Tinto plc, Pacific Hydro Limited, Australia Infrastructure Fund Limited, Federal Airports Corporation, Perth Airport, Yallourn Energy, Vodafone Australia, Statewide Roads and the Carlton Football Club. He was also a former member of the Melbourne Park Tennis Centre Trust.

John Clarke
Position: Founding Director

ICG Start Date: 2000

Skills and Experience: John formed ICG as a joint venture with ANZ in November 2000. The company was then called ANZ Infrastructure Services (ANZIS). In August 2009, John and Mike Fitzpatrick acquired ANZ’s shareholding. Prior to that John was Managing Director of Morrison & Co (Australia) Pty Limited when it managed Infratil Australia Limited. John has a strong track record of successfully acquiring and managing infrastructure investments. Infratil Australia’s assets included Port of Portland, Perth International Airport, Southern Hydro and Northern Territory Airports.

Prior to this, John was CFO of BellSouth New Zealand and also played a pivotal role in the deregulation of the New Zealand electricity market and at Power New Zealand was responsible for the IPO of the company and mergers and acquisitions.

On 1 October 2014, John stepped down as ICG’s Managing Director. John remains on the Board as an executive director and as a part-time executive on a three-year contract involved in capital raising and special projects.

Craig Whalen
Position: Executive Director

ICG Start Date: 2008

Responsibilities: Main responsibilities include deal origination and execution, portfolio management and arranging any debt required for existing and new projects (including refinancings).

Skills and Experience: Craig has over 25 years’ experience in infrastructure across a variety of sectors, including ports, rail, roads, airports, Public Private Partnerships and energy. Over his career, he has undertaken numerous financial advisory and debt arranger roles. He played a leading role in the acquisition of DIT’s and EIT’s interests in Flinders Ports and Hallett 4 Wind Farm.  Craig also led the successful US Private Placement for Hallett Hill 2 Wind Farm in 2015 as well as the refinancing of Wattle Point Wind Farm in late 2014. Craig maintains deep relationships within the project finance market in Australia, having previously held roles at ANZ, Macquarie Bank, Bankers Trust and Mallesons.

Edward Lloyd
Position: Director

ICG Start Date: 2016

Responsibilities: Origination, execution and ongoing portfolio management of investments, with a specific focus on working with ICG’s separate account clients.

Skills and Experience: Ed has over 15 years’experience in infrastructure investment across a range of geographies including Australia, Europe and North America. Ed has been involved in the acquisition and divestment of assets across sectors including regulated utilities, energy generation, airports, ports, rail, roads and social infrastructure. Prior to joining ICG, Ed was a Principal and Founder of KPMG Direct Investments, where he advised superannuation and pension fund clients on direct investment in infrastructure assets. Prior to this Ed was a senior investment professional at Colonial First State Global Asset Management and Hastings Funds Management.

John Blain
Position: Independent Consultant

Responsibilities: Responsible for providing industry consultancy services to ICG on an ad-hoc basis, in areas including engineering, procurement, project management and operations.

Skills and Experience: John has 30 years’ broad experience in infrastructure, and in the last seven years has been a provider of industry consultancy services, performing roles, which have included Industry Expert, Independent Auditor, Banker’s Engineer, Independent Project Manager, Advisor, Panellist, Independent Design Validator, Expert Witness and Board Member.

Phillip Baker
Position: Independent Consultant

Skills and Experience: Phil is a consultant to Infrastructure Capital Group to optimise existing investments as well as securing new investments. He sits on the boards of two of the investment manager’s portfolio companies, Flinders Ports and Port Hedland International Airport. Prior to his executive retirement in 2011, Phil worked as Managing Director of Adelaide Airport Limited and Parafield Airports Limited for 13 years. During this time, Phil was also the Managing Director of Gold Coast Airport from 1998 to 1999. Prior, Phil was the Managing Director Ringway Handling Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Manchester Airport plc in the United Kingdom. He has over 45 years of experience in the aviation industry, across airline operations and handling agents. Phil began his career with British Caledonian Airways Ltd, where he spent 20 years working in posts across France, the Middle East and West/Central Africa.

Skills and Experience: James has over 13 years’ advisory, equity investment and asset management experience in the UK, Europe and Australia, and previously worked at Amber Infrastructure, Babcock & Brown and Ernst & Young.

Skills and Experience: Daniel has over 8 years of equity investment, debt, advisory and asset management experience with a focus on natural resources, power and utilities infrastructure. Daniel previously worked within ANZ’s Natural Resources Group.
